How Mabry Brothers cut collection times by 50% using Payra

Meet Mabry Brothers
Mabry Brothers has been a trusted home-services provider in the Naples and Sanibel Island area since 1995. What started as a residential electrical contractor has grown into a full-service company offering HVAC installation and repair, residential and commercial electrical work, and whole-home generator installation and maintenance agreements.
Today the company employs 60 people and serves a customer base that includes both year-round residents and seasonal homeowners throughout Southwest Florida. Eight field technicians plus office staff now run their daily payments through Payra.

The problem
Before Payra, getting paid was slow, manual, and quietly expensive. The team was still printing and mailing paper invoices, then spending entire days on the phone chasing them down.
- Thousands of dollars a month in card and merchant fees - All fees absorbed by Mabry Brothers, because passing them on through the old system was an accounting nightmare.
- Clunky legacy tool - Their previous processor was not user-friendly, and every ACH payment had to be keyed in by hand through the bank.
- Paper invoices and lost checks - Checks showed up shredded in mail bags or never arrived at all, a constant problem with seasonal snowbird customers whose mail was forwarded or held.
- All day collections - Following up on unpaid invoices was a daily, manual grind for the office.
- Slow turnaround time - Invoices sat 60 days on average before they were paid.

The solution
Implementation was a quick, easy process. From signed agreement to first dollar collected, the team went live in just 11 days, with no drawn-out IT project and no months of configuration.
Today, Payra runs the full payment cycle at Mabry Brothers. Eight HVAC service technicians have the app on their tablets and use it daily in the field, while a dispatcher and the AR team work it in the office to send payment requests and fire off reminders.
- Payment-first scheduling. The biggest operational shift: instead of finishing a job and then chasing the invoice, Mabry Brothers now requires customers to set up a payment method through a Payra link before an appointment is even booked.
- A collections dashboard, not a phone marathon. For overdue invoices, the team uses Payra's payment request dashboard to see at a glance who hasn't paid and send follow-ups straight from the platform.
- Read receipts that end the "I never got it" excuse. The system shows exactly when an invoice was opened, so the "lost in the mail" defense no longer holds up.
- Automatic surcharge pass-through. Credit card surcharges now flow to customers automatically, eliminating the old accounting workaround and clawing back those thousands a month in fees.
- Digital ACH. ACH payments run through Payra instead of being keyed in by hand through the bank.
- Seasonal customers, no mail dependency. For the snowbird base, digital invoicing means getting paid no longer hinges on mail forwarding or a home-watch service collecting envelopes.

Results
Metrics (before & after):
- Days Sales Outstanding: 60 days → 30 days (about 50% reduction)
- Monthly merchant fee spend: thousands each month → $0 (passed to customers)
- Invoice delivery method: paper mail → digital (email and text)
- Collection follow-up time: full-day manual calls → digital reminders only
- Field technicians on platform: 0 → 8 (AC service), with 5 more being onboarded
The clearest sign of that shift is what comes next. Mabry Brothers is expanding Payra beyond HVAC into its electrical and generator divisions, bringing more field technicians onto the platform. A tool a company is willing to roll out across more of its business is a tool that's working well.
“Before Payra, it was constant, calling, mailing, whatever we have to do to try to get them to pay. Now with Payra, we tell our customers we're not coming unless you click on the link, go in there and set up your payment method. Once your payment method is set up in Payra, then we'll schedule the call.”
